2012-09-24 Hermosa SD Buffalo Roundup

After the GandG rally many of us moved to Hermosa
so we could see the annual Buffalo Round Up
Yes, Fall is coming and the jackets started coming out
Some days the temperatures swung from 40F at sunrise
to a nice 80F in the afternoon

We were on the road to the Buffalo Round Up in Custer State Park by 5:45am
Yes even Big Greg !!
Sunrise was beautiful and you can see we were not alone !!

The gates to the park were closed at 8:30am
and the Round Up was to start at 9:30am

Did I mention it was early
There was plenty of time to visit
and eat a hearty breakfast before things got started

Around 10am we saw the stirring of the Cowboys
Although there were horseback Cowboys, the Buffalo are unpredictable and
much stronger than horses, so the bulk of the hearding
is done by motor vehicles
The local media says there is generally about 1500 buffalo
gathered in the drive
That seemed a bit overstated

After the herd was in the corral it was easy to get some good pictures
with my rinky dinky Kodak

I'm glad we stayed the extra week after the rally
We have never visited the area before and I was glad to see
such a large herd, the Badlands, The Black Hills, Mount Rushmore, Devils Tower and Sturgis

Our next destination is Chanute Kansas and the birthplace of our traveling home!!
