2012-06-09 Family visit 'Red Oak' park and dowtown Carthage, Mo

My son Steve and his lovely wife Tanya drove down from Kansas City to visit
We had a really good time
We did something we hadn't done in years !! We went to the drive in movies
We also visited "Red Oak"
This is an original 1850's town that has been restored
It has grown to include original buidings through the 1950s

This house reminds me of my uncles home in Osawatomie,KS
Spent a few summers there bucking hay
The visits were fantastic but never want to work a hay field again
Ah the proverbial Milkman that inspired many comedians in the 50's & 60's

There was a beautiful ironworks gate that only needed
one more ornament to be complete
Driving up to Red Oaks gate we spied this peacock
He (yes the males are the colorful ones) strutted his stuff
but every time I snapped a picture he quickly turned to show me his backside
After taking lots of pics he finally let me have the head shot

There were several colorful birds around
Here is the prittiest one I found nestled in the trees

Tanya was ready when we hit the general store
One of the interesting sculptures in the park
So this is where the 'Honeys' come from

Thin these gas pumps were a bit before my time but not much

Only saw one bird here but it was a dandy

The jailhouse didn't have a lot of ammenities
Looks a bunch like the Liberty jail I er uh..... 'visited' as a teenager
Okay I'm a tad morbid but I like old cemetaries

No Tanya has always been an honest woman
but I couldn't help myself :)

Strangest duck I have ever seen
Its face looks like it was bred with a turkey
Town hall had sepaerate benches for Republicans & Democrats
Maybe the Republican's bench was larger because the builder was partial
or they just took up more space
Of course we took time out to reflect
on how times have changed

Back in the big city hanging out at the Malt Shop

It is the 2nd most photographed landmark in Missouri
behind the Arch in St Louis
Loved visiting the hardware store which included an array of
Grandfather clocks starting @ $5999.99 and
lucky us it was 1/2 price day
 We found several antiques shops
The items were in remarkable shape

Oh yes, and the reason we spent nearly 3 weeks in Carthage
This probably brings back fond memories for Big Greg and Jeff

After tearing down the engine in stages and sending pictures to FORD
They finally ponied up and sent a complete 'Short Block' and in a few days
we were 'On the Road Again'

Yep Flaming red does match her personality :)

Truck was running fine when we got it back
The next morning when getting ready to pull out for KC
We got the RV closed up and went to hook the truck up
It was missing very badly
Back to the dealer for another round
An injector had gone bad
Finally on the road again to KC
We will be settled in until 07/16/12 when we start our trek toward Michigan and another Haulin Hitchhiker rally
